What will you do?
We are looking for a hands‑on EC\&I Controls & Automation Engineer with a strong software bias, specifically in PLC programming, HMI development, and secure automation systems. This role strengthens our control and automation software capability within the India team, which is already strong in instrumentation and EC&I design. The objective of this role is to add depth in control and automation software, including PLC/HMI implementation, Cause & Effect logic, control philosophy development, and OT cybersecurity‑aware IEC 62443 system design requirements. This is a technical delivery role, not project management. The engineer will support oil & gas and process automation systems, including Hydraulic Power Units (HPU), CAFS, INERT / gas‑based fire suppression systems, and other safety‑critical control applications.
➢ Develop, test, and maintain PLC programs using Siemens TIA Portal.
➢ Design and implement HMI applications using WinCC / WinCC Unified.
➢ Implement control sequences, interlocks, permissive, alarms, trips, and shutdown logic.
➢ Develop, review, and execute Cause & Effect (C\&E) matrices and ensure correct implementation in PLC logic and HMI behavior. ➢ Support closed‑loop testing and simulation (e.g. PLCSIM Advanced).
➢ Perform hands‑on troubleshooting of PLC logic, HMI screens, communication issues, and field I/O. 2. HPU, CAFS & INERT Fire Suppression Control Assessment
➢ Support control system design and assessment for: • Hydraulic Power Units (HPU) • Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) • INERT / gas‑based fire suppression systems
➢ Develop and verify automation sequences, interlocks, and fail‑safe logic for hydraulic and fire suppression systems.
➢ Ensure fire suppression control logic aligns with Cause & Effect diagrams , safety requirements, and site operating philosophy.
➢ Support FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities for safety‑critical systems. 3. Control Philosophy & Automation Documentation
➢ Prepare and maintain: • Control Philosophy narratives • Functional Design Specifications (FDS) • Automation sequence descriptions • Cause & Effect diagrams
➢ Translate process and safety requirements into clear PLC logic and HMI functionality .
➢ Interface with EC\&I and process teams to ensure correct automation implementation. 4. OT Cybersecurity & Secure Automation Design
➢ Apply OT cybersecurity principles in PLC and HMI system design.
➢ Support secure control system network topology, including: • Network segmentation (zones & conduits concept) • Separation of control, safety, and enterprise networks • Secure remote access concepts
➢ Ensure automation designs align with IEC 62443 awareness‑level requirements.
➢ Participate in cybersecurity design reviews from an automation engineer perspective (not IT policy ownership).
➢ Identify and mitigate basic cybersecurity risks related to PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks.
Note: This is not an IT cybersecurity role, but OT cybersecurity awareness and correct engineering practices are required. 5. EC\&I Integration, Testing & Delivery
➢ Work with EC\&I design documents (SLDs, I/O lists, cable schedules).
➢ Support control panel design reviews, software loading, and configuration checks.
➢ Execute and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
➢ Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and handover of automation systems. Required Skills & Experience Must‑Have
➢ 5–10 years experience in EC\&I / Controls / Automation engineering .
➢ Strong PLC programming experience (Siemens TIA Portal mandatory).
➢ HMI development experience (WinCC / WinCC Unified preferred).
➢ Hands‑on experience with Cause & Effect logic and control narratives .
➢ Practical experience with industrial automation systems .
➢ Experience supporting FAT, SAT, and commissioning .
➢ OT cybersecurity awareness (secure control system networks, segmentation). Nice to Have
➢ Oil & gas / process automation experience.
➢ Experience with HPU, CAFS, INERT fire suppression systems . ➢ Basic functional safety exposure (SIL / IEC 61508 / IEC 61511). ➢ PLCSIM Advanced or similar simulation tools. ➢ AutoCAD / EPLAN (review level).
