    India Engineering Center (IEC) is part of the global product development and engineering organization of Johnson Controls. Employing over 1400 engineers from multiple engineering discipline and specialization, we are spread across Pune, Mumbai and Gurgaon. We work in the product development space which ranges from core mechanical design, automation integration, development of embedded electronic components, software design and development, cloud application, machine learning and data science applications.

    What you will do

    Tech lead II-Not people manager, but a technical leader. A Tech lead is a person who not only has the experience of development, but can own a set of stories & story points and allocate work to his/her team of dev. /Sr. Dev. He/She also develops code by himself as well as works as a mentor/reviewer of the codes developed.

    We are looking for you to successfully lead the design, architecture and implementation in our product line . This role will require interaction with representatives of other cross functional teams to understand requirements and strategies for the project, writing specification documents, assist with customer inquiries reported to support.  

    This role requires:

    • Ability to define product architecture and oversee technical development, open source technologies adaptation with related scope, risk and cost
    • Deep technical knowledge of software methodologies and techniques, preferably with systems programming technologies and tools
    • Demonstrated application of cutting-edge software technologies from internal and external sources
    • Experience in software technologies which integrate multiple systems using industry-wide standards
    • Works independently with minimal direction. Independently develops approach to solutions.
    • Both self-assesses competency gaps and creates plan to address gaps. Technical leader of projects/ team.
    • Mentor/ role model for technical team members.
    • Works with team to help them identify competency gaps.
    • Regularly proposes, communicates, and implements team-level improvements/ solutions (working with team).
    • Contributes to sprint/ project/ PI/ release goals. Can communicate sprint/ project /PI /release goals.
    • Expert in one or more products or features Recognized expert in one or more technical disciplines. Plans complex projects & product releases. Able to complete full set of designs for features or products.
    • Presents team designs, results of investigations, and strategy for completion to departmental teams and management. Defines specs for multiple features or products. Project & product communicator.
    • Able to represent Engineering in cross functional activities. Excellent written & verbal skills.

    How you will do it

    You should be hands-on technical leader working closely with your peers in engineering, product management and senior management in the company to deliver best of breed solutions with your technical stewardship. You will be responsible for below critical functions in helping us design leading products

    Product Architecture

    • Holding a leadership mindset and passionate about analysis, design, and development of technical roadmaps and implementation plans based upon a current vs. future requirement
    • Establish a channelized approach for product development standards, guidelines, operational procedures, standard configurations, application and architecture patterns
    • Driving product development team for evolving product architecture to identify weaknesses and setting up emergent design platform.
    • Designing architecture review process and holding ownership for the all reviews and establishing an open environment with easy adaptability
    • Timely architecture and design retrospection
    • Constantly investigate emerging technologies & techniques, research ongoing industry trends, make appropriate recommendations to the management for enhancements

    Collaborating with Technology teams

    • Reviews the key objectives of projects and clarifies the linkage of tasks to the overall objectives
    • Responsible for technical performance assessment and working with the team
    • Effectively communicate the product strategy, important events. etc. to the team on a periodic basis
    • Coaches and mentors the team - building a culture of strong commitment, innovation within the technology team 
    • Firsthand knowledge identifying the patterns (technical, process, interpersonal, motivational) which can negatively impact a development project. Proactively implemented solutions to resolve issues before they impact the team to keep the development effort focused, on track and on budget
    • Drives knowledge sharing lessons learned
    • Identifies choices and trade-offs involved in designing and implementing a solution and communicates them to the stake holders
    • Runs workshops like planning, estimation and architecture specification workshop
    • Actively participates in and assists with organizational events such as hiring, training and internal initiatives

    Technology Operations

    • Reviews and/or analyzes and thought leader for baselining architectural requirements and makes recommendations to architectural standards.
    • Envisioning possible engagement for architectural requirements with enterprise technology roadmap and market competition.
    • Ensures compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure, services, and strategic requirements having a close eye on conceptual completeness of the technical solution
    • Contributes to the development of software delivery platforms with reusable components that can be orchestrated together for different business
    • Develops a communication plan for architecture at the domain level

    Thought Leadership
     

    • Represent the organization in customer-facing communication related to technical expertise
    • Supports capability building for the organization (through tutorials, white papers etc.) in their areas of expertise
    • Stays abreast with the current affairs like leading packages and vendors, forthcoming architectures and trends, and existing and forthcoming standards.
      Identifies areas of focus and gains expertise through various activities like POC, research etc.

    What we look for

    Required

    • BE/B.Tech/M.Tech (ECE/EIE/ETC/CSE) Degree in a technical field is required.
    • Demonstrate the ability to think holistically about complex systems, understanding interactions between software, hardware, and cloud components.
    • Must have 12-16+ years of hands-on programming experience using C#, WPF, WinUI, MVVM , SQL server, Entity Framework, technology stack with design, Architecture. (at least 2 years relevant experience as an Associate Architect)
    • Microsoft .Net Programming stack
    • Experience in design and architecting various engineering products involving interaction between software and hardware components.
    • Define and drive product architecture, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability across the full technology stack.
    • Lead the design and implementation of technical roadmaps, balancing current needs with future scalability and adaptability.
    • Strong understanding of tech stack upgrade paths, including evaluating and adopting new frameworks, libraries, and cloud-native patterns.
    • Experience in optimizing application for speed, security and scalability
    • Strong understanding of different software development life cycles (Agile, iterative) and contemporary software quality assurance processes and automated tools.
    • Must have a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.
    • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies
    • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, problem solving, and an ability to learn quickly
    • Good stakeholder management and influencing skills covering colleagues, partners / vendors and project sponsors
    • Self-motivation, tenacity, flexible and reliable in approach to work
    • Must have experience in working effectively in collaboration with distributed global team members.
    • Must be able to do multi-tasking efficiently
    • Must be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communications

    • Act as a mentor and technical role model, guiding team members in best practices, code reviews, and architectural decisions
    • Stay abreast of the latest AI trends, tools, and models relevant to software engineering.
    • Evaluate and integrate AI/ML solutions (e.g., code generation, automated testing, intelligent monitoring) to enhance team productivity and product capabilities.
    • Promote a culture of experimentation, encouraging the team to leverage AI for automation, analytics, and smarter decision-making.
    • Strong knowledge of cloud technologies (preferably Azure), DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Familiarity with service-oriented architecture, integration patterns, and modern software quality assurance processes.

    Specialized Skills:

    • Familiarity with Cloud technologies, Azure DevOps would be preferred.
    • Familiarity with unit testing frameworks 
    • Exposure to work with Service oriented architecture and integration between various systems
    • Experience to use Resharper tools
    • Experience to work with Github & JIRA
    • Prior experience to work with System programming stack (C, C++, MFC) would just be an added advantage.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
    • Thorough knowledge of the software development area with key focus on PC Software Architecture and Usability.
    • Able to work independently or in a team environment
    • Able to take on end to end ownership adhering to committed project timelines
    • Ability to solve problems through analysis of a situation where there are a variety of variables
    • Strong business acumen, coaching and mentoring skills
    • Knowledge of Fire Detection Systems or similar engineering systems
