Overview
The Forklift Operator is responsible for utilizing a forklift to move materials around a storage yard, factory, or similar location. The Forklift Operator is also responsible for loading and unloading trucks, performing routine forklift maintenance, assisting with inventory documentation, and supporting full adherence to safety compliance regulations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Conducting pre-operation forklift inspections.
Operate lifting devices, i.e. forklifts, lift beams and swivel hooks.
Confirm inventory transactions are complete.
Manually load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, cars, and lifting devices.
Put away received materials to proper storage locations.
Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job.
Accurately ship and receive product.
May perform other activities such as assisting in taking inventory and weighing/checking materials.
Support inventory control with accurate documentation.
Perform routine maintenance on forklifts.
Accurately weigh and document materials.
Participate in clean-up of yard and facility.
Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a forklift operator in a warehouse/shipping environment with a valid forklift operator license.
Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
Ability to work independently.
Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of safe lifting and handling techniques.
Must have the physical ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
Working Conditions
Employee may be exposed to uncomfortable work settings such as cold or hot weather outdoors.
May have combinations of standing, crouching, or sitting throughout the day.
Fast-paced environment.
Overtime as required.
